History of DuPont State Forest In the modern history of the area known as DuPont State Forest, the State of North Carolina purchased the land for the recreation area in three major phases between 1995-2000.

Visiting Triple Falls.
During 1996 to 1997, DuPont ceased industrial operations in the area and sold its land holdings. Barn Trail is closed for repair. At the top of the steps, take the High Falls trail to your left. Triple Falls Trail in DuPont State Recreational Forest is closed for repairs.
